25BTiffinIs there a manager? Anything Viewtop I look to Anton and some of his scripts. He seems to handle the Reb fairly well with some nice "use it for indexing other things" features in some of his apps.14-Mar-08 1:57
24HenrikSome dummy work that could be done: Clean up the sites list for dead sites. Who manages that list and how?13-Mar-08 9:37
23HenrikThey would be easier to implement in R3 for sure, but we are quite a while away from that yet. Perhaps desktop is going too far, so we keep it as a launcher.8-Mar-08 14:41
22PekrHenrik - you wish to turn it more into a desktop. Look at Cyphre's Swis for some features. My understanding also is, that those things could be easier with R3 than R2?8-Mar-08 14:26
21HenrikSome ideas for Viewtop changes (this will go beyond 2.7.6):

- Sortable list view of files instead of icon view. Perhaps some code here could be grabbed from DevBase. - Easier way to edit index.r files, or direct editing of icons, renaming, moving, copying, deleting, like in a real file manager. The reason? Perhaps for using it as a very very simple project manager. Combined with the editor, it's able to cover the basics. If it's been a while since I last edited an index.r file, I have to look up in the docs how it works, which is cumbersome. - Generate index.r files recursively from reading a folder recursively. - View images directly from the Viewtop. - Desktop search of all files cached/known by the Viewtop. - Help screen with list of hotkeys - Allow doubleclick instead of singleclick (every single customer I know who has worked with the Viewtop always make this mistake, and they hate that it only wants one click.) - Path history menu

This is stuff that we can experiment and tinker with for 2.7.7, 2.7.8 and beyond. No rush at all. I don't have any specific requirements, but the Viewtop could gain a little more value from useful functions like search. It's for justifying that we can keep using it as it works just fine for software distribution, but I feel it has stagnated a little and some UI parts are a little awkward.

16BrianHBy "third-party" I mean people like me :)8-Mar-08 6:05
15BrianHIf not, and as long as your lawyer says that third-party modifications are handled properly, that works too.8-Mar-08 6:05
14BrianHAre there going to be changes to the R2 source licenses as well? If so, now's a good time to make them.8-Mar-08 6:04
13Carl? refers to: "Get the license right as well."8-Mar-08 6:02
12Carl??8-Mar-08 6:02
11CarlInteresting - we are out of sync on prot-http.r8-Mar-08 6:02
10BrianHWe can make those changes in the DevBase sources too. Get the license right as well.8-Mar-08 6:01
9CarlSo, easy to change, as it is part of the build.8-Mar-08 6:00
8CarlAh... those are inserted by a script as part of the release process. They do not appear in the master source copies.8-Mar-08 5:59
7BrianHSource files. I did a grep on the SDK source, and that message comment is in the REBOL header of every one.8-Mar-08 5:54
6CarlFiles? The source files, demos, docs, tools?8-Mar-08 5:49
5BrianHIn the header of every file.8-Mar-08 5:48

2CarlYes.7-Mar-08 18:38
1HenrikI'm reading some of the Viewtop code. First thing is that the license should read 2008, but another thing is:

; Please help us to improve this software by contributing changes and ; fixes via http://www.rebol.com/feedback.html - Thanks!

This should probably be something like contributing changes and fixed via DevBase?
