39GreggSeems to be permission related all right. Even though it's not on the boot drive, it's under a Program Files (x86) dir, which seems to be treated differently.12-May-08 23:50
38GreggLaunch issue must be a permissions thing. If I run the file from under the AltMe dir, it doesn't work. If I run it from another location, it works. Same from explorer. Like it's not passing it the script on the command line or something.12-May-08 18:10
37GreggI just found that the console doesn't seem to check the screen size when restoring its position. i.e. it remembers where it was last, but if that position is off screen, it still shows up there. In my case, I had it on a secondary monitor, which I've disabled for stability testing right now. The console still went to that virtual offset when I started it next.10-May-08 17:19

35CarlOn Win32? Yes, I launch them all the time. Are you on XP or Vista?7-May-08 0:25
34GreggDoes launching scripts from the Viewtop work for anyone else? If I click on a script (e.g. Anton's anim demos or ChrisRG's Arran), I just get a console window.6-May-08 18:48
33BrianHGregg: On the old system, the installer works. On the new it doesn't.1-May-08 19:22
32GreggOn my old system, the registry maps .r to a REBOL.script key. On my new system, it maps to r_auto_file. Not sure why it's different or what version uses which setting.28-Apr-08 16:53
31BTiffinAnother suggestion; The /Core and /View readmes should include a hint on how to find REBOL Altme accounts. Unless we want Altme to stay Dark and for the "worthy" that have put in the time to find where all the buzz is, it should be one of the first things a new developer sees. ???30-Mar-08 15:52
30GreggFrom chat with BrianH on r3-alpha, it's not clear what the current rules are, for where %user.r loads, what should be in the registry, etc.29-Mar-08 0:12
29GreggInstaller?29-Mar-08 0:11
28BTiffinThese are small files, I'd include them. Make people curious before they even start the system :). But a Start Here would be a close second.28-Mar-08 18:29
27BrentI think you're right about not being found by a new user down there, Brian. Would it be best to include the file itself or maybe add a View bookmark to a getting started folder that has links to good files like makedoc2.r and printf.r? The bookmarks are right there the first time a new user runs the exe and if "Getting Started" is staring them in the face, it's almost guaranteed to be clicked on. This keeps the download from getting bloated with more files.28-Mar-08 17:36
26BTiffinremebering...remembering remebering won't be a word until someone writes the REBOL mebering app. :)27-Mar-08 17:18
25BTiffinBrent; Not to speak for RT, but those public links in A-Z will never be found by a new user. And yes, I would say change the 2.7.6 release to zip bundles. It might be an extra step, but worth it imho and remebering back to that fateful and life changing first download. :)27-Mar-08 17:15
24PaulI'll check it out.27-Mar-08 17:11
23BTiffinLook in core031.zip from the 2.6.2 releases (if windows) words.r generates a complete REBOL function summary to %words.html. As Carl said. Nice.27-Mar-08 17:10
22Paulwhat is words.r?27-Mar-08 17:09
21BTiffinBy the way, words.r came with the REBOL/Core 2.6.2 zip bundle27-Mar-08 17:08
20BTiffinCan I suggest that, along with makedoc and words.r, we explicity include rebol.org's printf.r by Jaime Vargas and Ladislav. The idea there would be to demonstrate a cross-platform load/library and sample of clean routine! definitions. The idea would also be an attempt to limit the platform splintering that is bound to occur now that load/library is out in the wild.27-Mar-08 17:02
19BrentMakedoc (as well as other demo scripts) is already available in /public/library/scripts/A-Z/m/ in View. Are you thinking of explicitly including it?22-Mar-08 0:53
18PaulYeah makedoc would be good to include.20-Mar-08 23:12
17CarlWe could include something like makedoc and there was another that used the auto-docs to generate a complete summary of REBOL functions in HTML. Nice.20-Mar-08 17:20
16CarlThere used to be a demo or two in Core download as well.20-Mar-08 17:19
15BrentThere's also a license.html file and feedback.r. I would think feedback.r would be included in the exe, though.19-Mar-08 16:42
14BrentIn this zip file for View 1.2 http://www.rebol.com/downloads/view-pro031.zip there is a setup.html. Is this what you're looking for?19-Mar-08 16:40
13Henrikuh we have something like that in the old wikibook, I think19-Mar-08 12:40
12AntonHmm, this is more time-consuming than it looks...19-Mar-08 10:58
11Anton- how to uninstall and what will be removed.19-Mar-08 9:24
10AntonI think it's good that there's only one file in there :) But a GettingStarted.txt file might be nice. - How the installer works - How to see the command line options >> usage - Distinguishing different rebol versions and their capabilities - Which rebol version is this ? >> about - Note that this is R2, R3 code won't work - Where to find and how to try rebol code - viewtop rebsites - websites (rebol.org etc.)19-Mar-08 9:23
9Carl;)19-Mar-08 2:47
8CarlNew users aren't going to know anything.19-Mar-08 2:47
7BrianHIt sounds like a good idea. Does anyone know some new users? We could ask them.19-Mar-08 0:32
6CarlI think this is important to new users, what do you think?18-Mar-08 17:04
5CarlPerhaps start by downloading the 2.6 packages and see what we included with them.... or maybe it was as far back as 2.5 that we included some things.18-Mar-08 17:03
4CarlIt would be great if someone here wants to gather together this package.18-Mar-08 17:02
3CarlA quick overview and a few examples are a good thing to include in those beginner packages.18-Mar-08 17:00
2CarlFor example, the CORE and VIEW zip files contain only the executable, nothing else. That's fine for experts, but not good at all for new users.18-Mar-08 16:59
1CarlAlthough 2.7.6 is released, there are some things still missing. This group is to help figure out what those are, and do them.18-Mar-08 16:58
