Discussions and Chat

Instead of using IRC or web forums, Rebolers historically preferred to use systems in which both the client and the server are written in Rebol itself. (Rather than "eating one's own dogfood" Carl Sassenrath has referred to this habit as "drinking one's own wine"...)

If that feels natural to you, then jump right in! You'll find people who are eager to teach, and that Rebol has more active users than you would think from what Google has indexed.

  • AltME — The Alternate Messaging System is a graphical chat client written in Rebol version 2. It's the primary place where Rebol developers hang out, chat, and share files. The different chat rooms are called "Worlds", and some require invitations but many are open. Note: AltME's Rebol world (called REBOL3) requires an invitation... it is for all Rebol discussions including version 2.0 and version 3.0 of the product.
  • RebDev (DevBase) — Starting with Rebol 3.0, typing "chat" inside the interpreter fetches a script off the internet that implements a very lightweight command-line BBS. The discussions are more advanced, and not really for new users. (It's just important to mention that it exists if you're wondering where language issues are often discussed.)

But there's a growing tendency to carry out discussions on systems that are popular with today's developers (even if they weren't written in Rebol :P)

Issue Tracking

Rebol has bugs like any other system. But because it's so different from other languages, try chatting with someone about the issue before reporting a bug. There are many behaviors which may be surprising if you're used to other languages, but make total sense in the Rebol worldview.

  • RAMBO — a REBOL CGI application
  • R3 Curecode — the REBOL release 3 Cheyenne based web app marvel
